Snowflake moray eel is one of the most common type of saltwater aquarium eel and generally preferred for semi-aggressive or aggressive fish aquarium. Ph & temperature: You need to maintain ph of about 8.1 – 8.4 and tank temperature of about 22°C – 27°C,also carbonate hardness should be 8 – 12°dKH.
Tank Size: You need to have at least 75 gallons tank if you want to keep snowflake moray eel. You can place juvenile snowflake moray eel into 40 gallons tank but as they become mature you need to shift into bigger saltwater tank.
Size & Color: Snowflake moray eel has white body with black bands with yellowish border. There are also lots of round spots on the body. Mouth is bluish white in color and juveniles have less spots than the mature snowflake moray eel.
Food: Their main food is crustaceans and if not in wild they prefer to eat live food, frozen food and shrimp. Other than crustaceans they eat small shrimp, crabs, snails, mussels etc. As they eat almost every reef tank species they’re not suitable for reef tank. You don’t need to them regularly and there is no problem with your eel if it’s not eating as they often go without eating for weeks. Don’t put hand inside tank while feeding cause they might bite your hand.Also they move quite quickly when you attempt to feed them so make sure you don’t get close to them while feeding.
Breeding: It’s hard to determine gender for moral eel so you can take help of veteran or aquarium shop owner when you purchase them. There is not much information about their breeding in home aquarium so you need to ask breeding questions to large public aquarium keepers.
Behavior : They’re nocturnal bottom dwellers and it is suggested that while keeping them you need to have lot of hiding places like live rock, stone and marbles for them. As they eat small fishes and most of reef tank species it is recommended that you should not place them in reef tank. They go quite well with the fish of size equal or greater than their size but any small fish is likely to get eaten by them. If you’re keeping crustaceans in your tank then you should avoid placing snowflake moray eel in the same tank.
