In may 2010 there was one more species discovered in western ghats and is known to be one of tree frog species. There are more than 25 known new species of frog in western ghats. So far there are only 29 known families of frogs which comprises of 4800 species. There are chances that more and more new species and genera will be discovered in future as more studies are conducted in western ghats.
Western Ghats and Amphibians
The Western ghats in india is rich with bio-diversity and many animal species are discovered in this region. Because of this western ghats needs to be preserved for conservation of new found species.
Resplendent Shrubfrog is the second genera of tree frog which was first found in india by SD Biju of delhi university. It is named as resplendent shrub frog where resplendent means “bright colored,glittering” referring to the bright orange and reddish color of this frog. New species is yet to be confirmed whether it’s poisonous frog or not but it’s confirmed that it is different from the other known tree frog species. It has dark reddish and orange color on it’s body with black spots.
