Tetras are nice fish to keep in tropical aquarium setup. Some of the species require absolutely no caring level at all after acclimating. Unlike neon tetra, you’ll find lemon tetra one of the easiest tetra species to keep in your tropical home aquarium setup. Lemon tetra is also known as yellow tetra in most of the aquarium shops. Lemon tetra can adjust itself to the most of the water parameters in freshwater tank. There is very less needs to be taken from the aquarist point of view. They don’t grow more than 5 cm in length. You can maintain water temperature in the tank at about 20-27°. They’ve longer lifespan of about 6-8 years.
Breeding : It’s not easy to differentiate between male and female. Female when full of eggs will look more larger than male. When female lays eggs all over the tank, male make sure that they fertilize well in whatever place they are. It’s rare to see them breeding in captivity. And as parents rarely care for the fry that makes it more difficult to breed them in community tank.
Behavior : They’re peaceful in nature and will not pose any threat to other non-aggressive tropical fishes. It is recommended that you keep them in group of 4-6 tetras. You can even buy pair of tetra for your small tank but avoid keeping single tetra in the tank.
Food: Lemon tetra is omnivorous in nature and will accept wide variety of foods. You can give those flakes, pellets and frozen food. They’ll even take live food, frozen pellets and shrimp pellets.
